Life Out/In the Valley

What satire is: Pointing out the ridiculous nature of oppressive systems by using humour.

What people think it is: License to be racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic etc. as long as you insist you are joking.

What Seth McFarlane thinks satire is: Being racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic etc. in a funny voice.

Either this family has no idea how green screen souvenir photos work or they know EXACTLY how they work.

If you have an un/underfunded journalism class or camp and need AP stylebooks, you can apply to AP for donations!  How cool!

I put in a request for a class set since we no longer have textbooks.  VERY EXCITED.

Wish I would have known about this back when I was teaching journalism!

Happy Black History YEAR!

loving how my old history teacher talked about them like a terrorist group

boost me up

Wow okay so for those skimming, there’s a memo up there from THE DIRECTOR OF THE FBI that sets a mission to LIE about the good things the Black Panthers were doing, spread rumors of them being terrorists, and terrorize the communities supporting them.

If you think the Black Panthers were terrorists and you’ve never heard of the community-building, it’s because there was a literal government conspiracy to make you and people 45 years ago think that way.

i’m reblogging again (bolding mine), because people need to fucking know this. especially white americans.

This is true.

And we in the military are told the Black Panther Party is on the same level as the KKK and we’re not allowed to join it or go to any rallies or events hosted by the BPP.

I almost laughed when I saw it. I’m sure a few of the old-head Black chiefs laughed too.

This is the legacy of colonialism and white supremacy at work.

Shit, I remember hearing forever ago that they were basically the KKK, but for black people, and wanted to destroy (kill) not the system, but all white people

Oh yes, folks LOVE to pretend like the BPP was the KKK for Black people.

Because they wanna pretend like we’d stoop to that level

This is so important

Slurs are not oppressive because they are offensive, they are oppressive  because slurs by nature of being slurs draw upon certain power dynamics  to remind their target of his/her/their vulnerability in a certain relation to power and as an extension of that, to threaten violence and exploitation of that vulnerability.
