Gonna quickly throw in an epic quote I found on this article.
KJKJ: Gene Roddenberry, with balls of brass, got up on national tv and said, “hey people, if a geneticist took all the best DNA from planet Earth and put it together to make the best human the world has ever seen - he wouldn’t be a white guy.”
This is why I find the casting of a white actor in this role to be so repugnant. They are not whitewashing an Asian role, they are saying that the best genetic material that the entirety of this world and it’s diversity has to offer….still comes from a white guy.Reblogging again for that
The best genetic material that the entirety of this world and it’s diversity has to offer….
Lol and I just posted something about this. In response to all my white friends who responded to this with: “He was really great in that role!/He’s a great actor!/The movie was really good!”
Whitewashing is inarguably racist. Why is blatant racism suddenly okay if the actor is competent or the movie was “good?”
Also, Racebending has been one of my favorite pages since forever.
And apparently this makes this version of Irene Adler better than Sherlock’s Irene Adler because it makes her more idependent.
Still. No.
I haven’t watched Elementary. I refused to watch it because of A. It’s a stolen idea they stole from the BBC (and yes it does seem like they made it their…
“I refuse to watch [Elementary].”
Obviously, this makes you the perfect person to provide deep insight into the various flaws in the show. I’m sure you’ll have any number of oh-so-valid complaints, ranging from “it’s too much like BBC Sherlock” all the way to “it’s not the same as BBC Sherlock.”
“They stole [the idea] from the BBC.”
A common complaint among those who’ve actively avoided seeing the show. Funnily enough, I’ve yet to see it from anyone who’s watched Elementary— indeed, it almost seems like this particular complaint might be *gasp* completely made up based on speculation from BBC Sherlock fans who’ve been looking for ways to complain ever since the show was announced. (Fun fact: Not only did Moffatt NOT create Sherlock Holmes, he isn’t even the first to modernize it— in fact, CBS has been working on modernizations of Sherlock Holmes with a female Watson since the ’80s, whoops.)
“ Watson is the sidekick/partner (will and always will be).”
Hmm, considering that the big takeaway from the finale was “treating Watson as a sidekick is the biggest mistake you will ever make,” this just makes me want to laugh.
“Making them [Watson and Moriarty] women is meaningless!!!!”
Now, this just saddens me. You are completely dismissing the importance of a WoC playing a much-beloved character that is pretty much always portrayed as a white dude (to the point where this white dudeness is implied even when Watson isn’t human), or how different the character of Moriarty is from the villains generally portrayed by women (a ruthless mastermind who never needs to get her own hands dirty, who is not primarily motivated by emotion, and who effortlessly controls an army of well-trained assassins without needing to rely on her sex appeal).
And if Moriarty is the most kick-ass woman in this little story, how come Joan (y’know, the one referred to as the “heroine” of the story in the title of the finale) was the only one who could figure out how to take her down?
There’s more I could say about this, but really, it’s just not worth any more of my time.

True shit
A review by one of the folks sums it up perfectly:
“What worries me about Yahoo! buying Tumblr is how it would choose to incorporate the website into its email and homepage features. One of the reasons why Tumblr is so unique is because it’s a niche market. By adding more users who don’t fit into this niche, it would make it more difficult for communities to develop within Tumblr, and Tumblr would have to change to accommodate these new users. Tumblr as a website is not the kind that you can sign up for in a day and be on your way. It is a website crafted so that you can immediately post but must spend several weeks, sometimes even months, to build a community. With new users who would not be willing to spend time growing a community, Tumblr would have to be changed, which would alienate its current users. Those users have spent time and effort to make Tumblr what it is today, and they are the ones who spend time on the website daily. A user who is checking onto Tumblr because it’s attached to their homepage is not going to be as strong of a user nor as dedicated. By changing the website to suit this new user, you would lose the strong users while building an undedicated usership.
To any website that would think of buying Tumblr, they must understand that it is a website that cannot be changed to make it more user friendly to a casual blogger. I think that many Tumblr users would be less worried about a buy-out if they were promised that their communities and ways of using Tumblr would not be changed. No one is going to mind Yahoo! buying the website and gaining a few extra million dollars per year from the minimal advertising; what we will be upset with is if a company like Yahoo! then changes the website to increase casual users and decrease dedicated users. Yahoo! would gain nothing by losing this “cool” group of bloggers in an age group they so desperately want to reach, so they must cater to these individuals by leaving the website exactly as is.” - houseoftombombadil
As much as is does sound like a load of bullshit for someone to buy Tumblr, it’s a possibility. I Personally think it should stay independent and I hope David Karp keeps a hold of it like his own child. Or we make enough noise to where such major changes (if bought) will not happen. I would hate to see Tumblr turned into an advertising dump.
We’re not a ‘hip fad group’ to be marketed to. I hate the fact that’s all we look like to businesses in the end.

Reblogging for commentary.
Absolut Vodka release a limited edition label free bottle to celebrate diversity and challenge Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender prejudice.
socially conscious vodka? SIGN. ME. THE FUCK. UP.
Marketing conscious vodka, aimed at a minority which suffers disproportionately from drinking problems. Socially conscious would be a very different thing.
I think I sprained something with that eyeroll. I can’t believe how gullible some of y’all are, though.
And of course, that “why do we need labels?” bullshit mentality that self-proclaimed allies love so much plays a starring role, too. Though if their goal was to make me want a drink, they’ve succeeded- just as long as it’s not an Absolut product.
At this rate, Colbert might actually be held accountable in the near future for making transphobic jokes.
Go trigger warn some shit
That’s not transphobic, though. He’s making a point that because the LGBT agenda is “barreling forward at full-speed” that the B and T of LGBT is being left behind. Everyone is focusing on the L and the G that there are people who have no idea what the B and T even stand for. He’s not being transphobic or making a slight meant to make fun of or harm the bi and trans* community. He’s making a point that no one is focusing on them because they’re focusing on the lesbian and gay community.
Mother. Fucking. This.
People really need to realize that EVERYTHING Colbert says while on camera is satire.
Satire: The use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the cotext of a play, novel, fiilm or other works.
He is not making a transphobic joke. He is not honestly saying that bi and trans people do not count/matter/exist. He is making humor in order to shed light on the fact that they are forgotten.
He is doing this to raise fucking awareness that there is more to LGBT than LG. He is raising a big flag that says “Hey, don’t forget about these guys. They count. They matter. Why aren’t you doing anything about them? Why aren’t they discussed?” He is not trying to say “They don’t matter.”
So please stop with the self righteous, self pity, “social justice” comments unless you know what you are talking about.
I do appreciate that Bisexual is matched with bacon. I rather enjoy bacon.
This is why I love the Colbert Show.
Stephen Colbert is basically my hero.
Um I don’t mean to be rude but Stephen Colbert is pretty transphobic and no amount of mental gymnastics is going to change that.Satire really is only powerful as a tool of social justice when you’re satirizing those in power or oppressive stuff. Since he makes a ton of jokes using transgender people as a punchline he is kind of most definitely transphobic. Anyways I’m not very good at tumblr or making gifs but here are some of his quotes about trans people and a source. Please excuse me for posting them so awkwardly and whatever.
http://www.colbertnewshub.com/2012/04/03/april-2-2012/
I know some of you might think that like he apologized so it’s ok but using someones pain as a way to make another joke isn’t really an apology but whatever.
This is from his book America again where he uses a transphobic joke to make fun of gum and yeah…
I have no idea how this managed to reach 35k notes without a single person being like no actually Stephen Colbert is transphobic but yeah. I didn’t even bother to reblog everything but whatever. He has said tons more fucked up things and everyone can google it.
Tons of receipts here, also. He’s a perfect example of the liberal transmisogynist who uses trans women both as evidence of how great his social politics are and as the butt of his jokes.
